It is probably a self-portrait because he has brushes and a pallet in his hands. The man is wearing a white head, a red shirt and a black coat. Under his shirt he wears something white. The background is brown and on it's way to the bottom it turns black. The atmosphere of this painting is sad and serious. This is because he seems away with his mind and because the painter used very dark colours. His face is lighted on the left top, on the right an bottom you find shadows.

This painting is about 1.5 times as high as the width. The person covers about three quarters of the height. Only the part from head to middle is shown. On the wall behind him two large circles are drawn. The length of the hair is up to his shoulders. He has dark eyes and a large nose.
