The Highsted web site is intended as a resource for all connected with Highsted Grammar School: pupils, world parents, staff and governors, the local community, past and present.

Asecondary function is to serve as a "shop-window" for Highsted to the rest of the world.

Its content should be useful to its intended audience, links are regularly checked and reviewed.

world

It should be accessible to all of its intended audience, regardless of computer power, browser used or physical disability such as visual impairment.

It should serve as a means of allowing pupils and staff to develop their skills in designing web pages.

While we will from time to time experiment with techniques such as frames, image maps and Javascript which will not be appropriate for all our users, we will at all times endeavour to ensure that content is accessible to all. To this end we will use the following guidelines:

  1. Large graphic images should have an associated warning and an alternative provided where possible.
  2. If image maps are used, there should be an alternative method of selecting options. Generally done with a list just below the Image Map.
  3. Make link text descriptive but not verbose.
  4. All pages should be tested using multiple browsers and screen resolutions (800x600 will be the standard resolution).
  5. Do not use proprietary procedural format mark-up or non-standard HTML extensions. They often break Braille translation and screen access programs. They may also cause problems for some browsers.
  6. For simple images, such as icons performing the function of bullets, use simple ALT attributes.
