Special Curricular Provision and Arrangements for Pupils with Special Educational Needs

We create a positive environment for learning and we provide for individual differences in the classroom, adapting our teaching methods through careful selection of a wide range of teaching materials.  All classes have  mixed age ranges.  Consultation with parents is arranged if children do not progress as expected.  Specific advice is offered so that parents may help at home and extra help is also given at school.  At present we have a Special Educational Needs Support teacher for one and a half days a week.  This support may be used in any one of the following methods:-

i)    In class support by support staff
ii)    Individual withdrawal with support staff or class teacher
iii)    Small group withdrawal with support staff or class teacher

If a child experiences persistent learning difficulties, the Head Teacher, in consultation with parents, staff and SEN teacher may call upon the expertise of the Special Needs Support Services, an Educational Psychologist from the Education Psychology Service, speech therapist or medical officer.

Hamsteels is suitable for physically disabled and pupils using wheelchairs.

Able Children

We recognise that gifted and talented children, by virtue of their outstanding abilities, are capable of high performance.  We therefore provide a suitably differentiated curriculum for such children.
