The National Curriculum and IT

National Curriculum Information Technology
At KS4 * Pupils should -

become autonomous users of IT
select IT tools appropriate to a task
apply IT in other subject areas
recognise the impact of IT in the workplace
use IT to handle and communicate information in a variety of contexts
use IT to enhance their own learning and the quality of their work
increase their understanding of the social, ethical, moral and economic impact of IT

* In Wales, we need to deliver these skills and this critical awareness of IT through cross curricular initiatives as there is no compulsory IT component in the curriculum at KS4

Developing students’ web authoring skills at the earliest opportunity will create a bank of skills for the future.Web authoring projects and making the Internet a learning resource should not be viewed as something exclusively for older students.

National Curriculum Information Technology
At KS2 Pupils should be given opportunity to

use IT equipment and software to communicate ideas and information in a variety of forms, incorporating text, graphs, pictures and sound
and to organise, reorganise and analyse ideas and information.

At KS3 Pupils should

use IT to create good quality presentations for particular audiences, integrating several forms of information
