The project will be based in Roath, Cardiff. It will focus on the geographical space that the community inhabits and the historical processes that created it, while at the same time exploring the emotional attachments to the place of the people who make up the community.
The project will be cross-generational. Elderly members of the community will be involved through senior citizen clubs and will work with school children from Marlborough Road Primary School.
Participants will explore attitudes to the community they share. A writer and photographer will help facilitate this process.
Groups will use new multimedia technology to create a web-site to express their sense of community identity.
During the project, there will be exchange between participant groups - elders will contribute knowledge through reminiscence and children will share their IT skills.
A 3D artist will commemorate the project by the installation of objects and memory boxes as public art at key locations. The real and virtual spaces become linked.
The project will also be recorded and documented by way an exhibition and book.
Further information about this project will be posted shortly.
In the meantime, here is a preview of how the web site is being planned.
