Dear Colleague,
This is an in-between mailing with a number of items that are important to share with you before Easter. Most of the items in this letter are concerned with Religious Education and the Head of RE should be informed about them also.
1 Broad Areas of Attainment in RE at 16-19
Last week at its annual conference the National Board of RE Inspectors and Advisers published the enclosed booklet to complement the Broad Areas of Attainment in RE for Keystages 1 to 4. The copy enclosed is your copy from the Diocese. Further copies may be ordered from Matthew James Publications (tel 01245 347710) at £3.50 each, details enclosed. This booklet will help schools and colleges review and improve their RE at sixth form level. It will help those schools which do not have sixth forms to have more idea of what is done at 16 to 19 in the Catholic sector. (Only one copy is being sent to each school, in the letter to the Headteacher).
2 SPEC GCSE Courses
Details of courses on offer at SPEC, All Saints Pastoral Centre in conjunction with WDES follow. "These are in response to requests by RE staff following the success of the A Level courses last year, and all have excellent speakers and provide a good way of revising for the examinations. Bursaries are available. All enquiries to Sandra Satchell on 01727 828888, fax 822927. Bring small group or whole year group".

28-9 March: A Level Revision, The Synoptics, Luke explored, Fr Vladimir Felzmann
29-31 March: Rising to the Challenge - conference for school leavers thinking about taking a year out in Christian Voluntary Work in the UK or overseas.
22, 25, 26 April 10-3: 'Barriers of Injustice', Sr Patricia Mulhall (CAFOD) and SPEC team. Choice of dates for Year 10 and 11 Study Day
. 23 April 10-4: 'A Christian Response to Social Issues'. Mr Peter Keenan. GCSE Revision Course for Year 11 - Lecture style, NEAB syllabus 6.
1 May 10-4: NEAB Syllabus B sections 2A/2B and Mark's Gospel, Mr Anthony Clark and Mrs Cynthia Bartlett, followed by:
1 May 4.40-5.50 Teachers' meeting with Mr Anthony Clark and Mrs Cynthia Bartlett.
3 NQT Lists
Sister Doreen Casey has compiled another new list of students finishing their courses in June and looking for posts in Catholic Schools in Westminster in September. Please note that there is a separate list of students from the Institute of Education. For the first time the Diocese was represented at a Careers Fair at the Institute earlier this month. The Careers Fair was very well attended and many keen Catholic students were seen.Please contact the students directly. (Only one copy is being sent to each school, in the letter to the Headteacher).
4 CCRS Study Day on Morality
The main speaker at the next CCRS day is Fr Terry Phipps who lectures on Moral Theology at Allen Hall.The study day is on Saturday May 18th at Vaughan House from 10 am to 4 pm. For further details contact Moira Wilson on 0171 798 9006.
