| Eyed Hawk-moth Smerinthus ocellata |
| Status:
Resident. Distribution and Abundance: Fairly common. Primary Habitat: Wetland. Flight Period: Single brooded in May and June. Observations: Although stated in literature to give rise to an occasional partial second generation, this appears to be a rare event in Northamptonshire. The only definite occasions that I have been able to trace being in 1937 when the dates were 18 May 1937 and 9 August 1937, and in 1941, when moths were seen on 6 June 1941 and 21 August 1941. L.O.N.: 1907. Many localities. Rather common. Taken freely at light in Northampton. First Record: 1858, Green. |
