  Status: Resident and Migrant.

Distribution and Abundance: Very common.

Primary Habitat: General occurrence.

Flight Period: Recorded in all months from May to October, but much more plentifully in late summer and the autumn.

Observations: Annual abundance varies greatly. Pitsford light trap records for the year 2000 show 1290 examples attracted to the two static traps, of these, 1247 occurred in August, September and October. For the year 2001 the figures were 295 and 252 respectively. Fifty years ago a single light trap operating in a Wellingborough garden in 1951 produced 3266 moths overall, with an August to October tally of 3152.
