Distribution and Abundance: Common.

Primary Habitat: Woodland.

Flight Period: Single brooded in March and April.

Observations: The full range of variation occurs with the violet coloured ab. rosea forming a small percentage of populations. The larva may be found by day in June, well concealed at rest on the stems of garden honeysuckle.
