The Year 1 / 2 pupils above are investigating ice as part of their Materials topic.  They have made an iceberg by freezing a balloon full of water and are now observing what happens to the iceberg when it is put in water.

Further 1  / 2 work on Materials involves an Art project.  In this activity the children are investigating the properties of materials, their textures and patterns while enjoying the experience of collage.

Year 5 / 6 are investigating Forces.

Force    A force is a pull or a push. Forces can affect an object by changing the shape, the direction, the speed or move it. 
Gravity  Gravity is a force which pulls objects down onto the Earth.  Gravity is a force which makes sure we don't float up into the air.
Friction  Friction is a force which keeps us from slipping over. Friction is on
everything we touch.  Friction is found on the grip on your shoes.
Lubricant  A lubricant is a substance which reduces friction.  These are some of the things that are lubricant: water and oil. 
Upthurst  Upthrust is a force which supports an object in liquid.
