The Pub

It is called the "Blind Piper". This engaging pub is named after Mici Cumba O'Sullivan who was born around 1835 in Castlecove, Co. Kerry. Early in life he emigrated to Massachussets, but he became partially blind and returned to Kerry with his family. His piping was acknowledged to be superb and was the envy of many aspirant pipers. He didn't take to recording - "the work of the Devil" - and died in the workhouse an old and friendless man. In recompense, his name is remembered in the Caherdaniel pub which presents many musical evenings of note. Piping is a speciality.

The pub is very friendly and easy going. It has a bright yellow appearance and enhanced by a Guinness toucan sign. Obviously an essential part of the local community, it presents a useful role in getting people talking and dancing. The quality of the music presented over a week is high and diverse. Unfortunately, the Smithwicks was off while we were there, but the black stuff was good recompense.

Enjoying the Irish stout are Sarah, Simon (with the cap), Allen, Ruth (dark glasses), Malcom, Nick (with his arm up), Steve (more dark glasses) and Jim (with the smile).
