The Royal Sovereign

"Also in this album are pictures of the scuttling of the German High Seas Fleet on June 21st 1919. I was present on board HMS Royal Sovereign. I was also present at the surrender of the German High Fleet on board HMS Princess Royal. Photographs of which were not available. HMS Princess Royal was a unit of the Battle Cruiser Squadron known at the time as Beattie's Cat Squadron because we always did our prowling around at night, though the Battle of Jutland was fought in daylight and the Cat Squadron and 1st Battle Squadron were the only big ships to meet and engage the High Seas Fleet. The main Battle Fleet to the best of my knowledge and belief didn't even see them. They weren't fast enough to get there in time. Though our light cruisers and destroyers engaged them and suffered losses as heavy as the ten big ships who engaged the whole High Seas Fleet."
