Kilsby School Log starts in October 1872, but the National School was probably founded in 1839. Before this time education was provided by Dame Schools and the Church. Fourteen children joined the school in 1876 when the school connected with the Chapel closed. The existence of an early Dame School in Essen Lane is certainly accepted.
In the early years of the school children were often absent for such activities as haymaking, gleaning, potato and blackberry picking. There are also many references to such diseases as Scarlet Fever, from which four died in 1881, and Diphtheria another killer.
At present the school has 95 children in four classes. The village Playschool also shares the site.
There are many extra-curricular activities within the school. There are a wide variety of opportunities in music. Treble and descant recorders, violin and strum along guitar are all offered free and peripetetic lessons in flute, clarinet, guitar and keyboard are offered at a price.
The school competes with local schools at football, netball and athletics and also runs an after school table tennis club. There is a "Parrots" French club held after school.
