KILSBY SCOUT GROUP 17.02.99
History ( in the beginning )
The Kilsby Group was formed in November1954.
The first Cub pack night was held on the 3rd January 1955 in the village hall. The village hall committee agreed that the Scout group could use the village hall every Monday evening from 6.30 to 9.00pm at a cost to the Kilsby group of six pounds per annum. The first Scoutmaster was Mr A C Lacey.
Mr Lacey had spent £6. 9. 3 1/2d out of his own pocket, on books, badges, etc, and would have to be paid back out of funds at a later date. By February nine cubs were ready to be invested.
The Troop, consisting of twelve Scouts, held their first meeting on the 24th January.
The first Investiture Ceremony was held on Monday 28th March when the County Commissioner presented warrants to the Scoutmaster, Cubmaster and Assistant Cubmaster. Then the Cubmaster invested 15 Cubs and the Scoutmaster 8 Scouts.
The first "bob a job" week in April 1955 raised £20. 8s. 6d. for the group. Mr Hughes the Group Scoutmaster, reported that the group council had bought a Troop Flag.
The Troop went on their first camp during the Whitsun weekend of that year to Mr Smith's farm at Barby. The cost to the boys was 11 shillings each. A lot of equipment was being borrowed from the County Association.
During 1957 two patrol tents and other equipment for camping was purchased. The Scoutmaster and Group Scoutmaster had discussed moving the meeting night from Monday to Friday as so many of the boys had homework to do. They decided against the move as this clashed with choir practice.
