Eco-Warriors

Eco-Warriors

The Eco-Warriors are a group of children in each class in the school. They have responsibilities that involve them in  a number of environmental projects.

  • We have a large blue bin in the car park. Rather than put any waste paper in with the other rubbish we collect it in separate boxes. These are placed in each classroom  and beside the photocopiers in the office areas. Every Friday a team of children collect these boxes and empty their contents into these blue recycling bins. A special lorry collects the paper in these bins and takes it away for re-cycling.

  • A parent has organised a cartridge collection point. Empty printer cartridges from the two computer rooms and printers in the office and teaching areas are placed in a big box. Once a term these are sent off to a special place for recycling.

  • A group of Eco-Warriors go to the staff room each week. The staff place food and tea bags in a special green bin. These children empty the bin in the big compost heap in the Peace Garden. They also have to clean the bin out as it can attract small flies

  • We have just planted a variety of shrubs and hedges around the Peace garden. The Parent/Teacher Association have also planted flowers and plants outside the new classroos. A different group of children each day, water all of these to make sure they grow well. They use a hose and 2 buckets.

Boundary Brook Nature Park

Right beside the school the Oxford Urban group have created a city nature park from the allotments and waste ground that used to be there. We use it all the time to study habitats and plants and animals.
