The
Curriculum: Key Stage 3 (Years
7 - 9)
Lord Williamss
School builds on the
knowledge, understanding
and skills that children
have gained in their
primary school. Our aim
is to develop thoughtful,
confident young people,
as well as preparing them
for their examinations.
The schools policy
is to group pupils in
ways which promote the
highest possible
participation in learning.
When pupils start in Year
7 they are placed in
mixed tutor groups and
most lessons take place
in tutor groups, which
remain important
throughout the school.
Learning support teachers
and assistants provide
additional help and
support during the first
year. After one term in
Year 7 pupils are grouped
into mathematics sets
according to their
progress. Sets are
introduced for French and
German in Year 9.
The Curriculum:
Key Stage 4 (Years 10 and
11)
A summary of the current
Key Stage 4 curriculum is
presented here. Further
information can be found
in the GCSE Courses Guide.
The National Curriculum
is subject to review and
the structure presented
here may change.
At the beginning of Year
10, students move to the
Oxford Road campus, where
they begin formal
preparation for the
General Certificate of
Secondary Education (GCSE).
They are at present
entered for GCSE exams in
up to 9½ subjects.
The Curriculum: The
Sixth Form
(Years 12 and 13)
Most young people now
continue their education
beyond the age of sixteen.
At Lord Williamss
normally two-thirds
choose to stay on into
the Sixth Form where they
are usually joined by 15-20
students entering from
other schools. They leave
school at seventeen,
eighteen or nineteen to
enter higher education,
further education or work.
