Summer Carnival

and Winter Jonkonnu

1997

@

Loughborough Infants

In July we had our first Carnival. We decided on theme of " In the Garden. " The children in each class were given different costumes to make: flowers, spiders, ants, ladybirds, snails, bees, centipedes, butterflies and caterpillars. We dressed up in our costumes and had a parade around the school. Loughborough Junior School's steel band played music for us in our playground.

In December we had our Jonkonnu, we enjoyed making different costumes such as Belly Woman, Pitchy Patchy, the Devil, Sailors and Caribs, and parading and dancing in and around the school.

We had our Jonkonnu in early December but long ago it was a Christmas celebration to mark the one day's holiday in Jamaica.

The local Community Centre at Myatts Field hold their Jonkonnu in early November.
