Planning at Lydiard Millicent is undertaken in three stages, long, medium, and short term. Long Term Planning Using the Curriculum Mapping sheets, teachers use this overview to aid their planning for a particular term in all curriculum subjects. From here, teachers access schemes of work and knowledge of subject co-ordinators to assist in the production of detailed medium term planning.
Medium Term Planning Within Lydiard Millicent, emphasis is placed upon detailed medium term planning in all subjects with the exception of Literacy and Numeracy. In these areas time is devoted within weekly stage planning meetings to produce detailed weekly plans supported by the Literacy and Numeracy co-ordinators. Within the remaining subject areas, curriculum planning sheets are used to produce medium term plans. The plans are extremely detailed so that during weekly planning meetings, time is spent on providing well planned and resourced Literacy and Numeracy sessions, thus reducing the paperwork on a weekly basis. The detail of medium term planning should therefore be likened to that of a lesson plan( with the exception of differentiation ), thus allowing any support / agency / supply teacher to teach the same lesson. Our main aim is to promote effective teaching and learning whilst at the same time ensuring the continuity and progression of a well-balanced curriculum with the supportive school environment. Short Term Planning Within all subject areas, weekly plans are produced. Within the exception of Literacy and Numeracy, subject activities are placed on a weekly planning sheet using their task numbers. Differentiation should also be placed on the weekly planning sheet. No other details are required, as reference should be made to the detailed medium term planning. Within Literacy, medium term planning will influence the separate weekly plan. The week is broken down into daily plans, and within that, the component parts of the Literacy Hour. Within key stage planning meetings, teaching staff produce detailed weekly plans using the MES room and its resources, co-ordinator support and their own knowledge. Each teacher works on screen using an ICT workstation and disk to produce their weekly plans and resources. Within Numeracy, medium term planning will influence the separate weekly plan. Weekly Timetable All activities that have been planned for the week are placed onto a weekly timetable, thus allowing co-ordinators to assist in monitoring their subject during non-contact time and indeed, for teachers to organise resources for each session
