NUMERACY

At Lydiard Millicent School the National Numeracy Strategy has been fully implemented. All children participate in Numeracy time each day. This lasts between 45 minutes and an hour, depending upon the age and maturity of the children.

During Numeracy sessions there is a focus upon mental calculations, alongside work on units, such as number and place value, calculations, problem solving, measures, shape and space. At the end of each session the children reflect upon their work during the plenary. Weekly Numeracy homework is set for all children in years 1-6. Assessment is undertaken each half-term and targets are set and reviewed regularly.

There is a wide variety of practical resources in school which are used to assist the teaching and learning of these topics.
