LITERACY

The National Literacy Strategy has been adopted fully within Lydiard Millicent. Children enjoy the Literacy Hour, and all areas are supported by a wealth of resources. Children work within shared and guided reading and writing, word, sentence and text level work, independent writing activities and plenary sessions. These allow children to focus upon the learning objectives of each Literacy session. The homework policy highlights areas in Literacy which teachers plan specific activities for, including spelling, reading and a range of writing tasks which support and reinforce the classroom objectives. The children find these activities enjoyable and stimulating, particularly as they can explain the work to their parents!

Children undertake termly narrative writing activities. As a result of their achievements, the children receive future learning targets. These targets are grouped together to form revised Literacy groups and activities are developed by the teacher to ensure that each child is supported in his/her writing development.
