All Saints Church and Lydiard Millicent C of E V.C. School ‘Working Together ’
The following Ethos Statement from the DfEE Guidelines is a helpful introduction: "Recognising its historic foundation, the school will preserve and develop its religious character in accordance with the principles of the Church of England and in partnership with the Church at parish and diocesan level. The School aims to serve its community by providing an education of the highest quality within the context of Christian belief and practice. It encourages an understanding of the meaning and significance of faith, and promotes Christian values through the experience it offers to all its pupils."The relationship which exists between All Saints Church and Lydiard Millicent School is excellent with a positive and supportive interaction which encourages both fellowships and the community as a whole. Such support comes in the form of: ° termly and seasonal services of worship in church and at school ° regular class visits to the church to learn more of Christian faith and practice ° regular dialogue between the Vicar and Head teacher ° weekly assemblies taken by the Vicar and members of All Saints Church° Christian after-school clubs ° assistance on the School Governing Body and various school subcommittees, most especially curriculum and staffing ° the involvement and advice given by our lay foundation governors ° a prayerful and practical concern at all times for the pastoral, social and spiritual needs of the children, staff and parents alike and therefore the link with the whole communityThe ecumenical nature of the Partnership of West Swindon and the Lydiards also brings a broader Christian perspective to the life of Lydiard Millicent School. It is hoped that a sensitive, caring, compassionate and gently challenging relationship exists so that the children will be encouraged to learn, through witness and guidance, the essential nature and practice of the Christian faith.
