What services can I offer schools ?

In the area of Information and Communication Technology (ICT), I have worked as an advisory teacher, adviser and inspector for the last 15 years, providing practical advice, support and training to enable schools to:

• produce, implement and monitor curriculum policies, including the dual roles of I T as a subject to be studied in its own right and as a support to work in other subjects;
• produce, implement and monitor I T development and action plans;
• produce implement and monitor schemes of work including suitable classroom activities;
• develop staff confidence and competence in using I T in the classroom and for their own purposes;
• audit existing resources, identify needs and funding requirements, and produce appropriate budget plans;
• upgrade existing equipment, including installation of new items of software and hardware;
• make more effective use of existing resources, including "old" software and hardware;
• gain experience of new technologies, such as multimedia, the Internet and electronic mail.

My approach has always been to seek to make the tasks manageable and to demonstrate to staff that the objectives and targets, though challenging in the first instance, are achievable and that the process can even be enjoyable! Children like to use computers - why shouldn't teachers?

In addition to ICT-related work, I can also offer advice and support to schools on a range of whole-school issues.

While I do have some expertise in the use of ICT for administration, I would want to ensure that any advice or other work which I provided would mesh with that provided by your LEA, SIMS, or other organisation, in order to avoid any complications for your system in the future.
