Friday

(De)Parting is such sweet sorrow. Honestly.

(since we’re leaving Low Mill today, I thought I’d use this as an opportunity to put up some of the photos from the .. ahem .. Talent Show from last night and to add a few other photos from the general collection that never made it into the Daily Pages. Plus a chance for the “Quote of the Week” to be aired to all and sundry. Read on and see what has been happening since Thursday’s update.

The Talent Show

Unfortunately, due to my official responsibility of website updater, I missed the first half of the talent show. But I did hear a number of the acts. People singing songs, people doing card tricks and people doing American style chat show spoofs. I’m sure you can imagine the sheer joy that we all felt at being part of such high-quality entertainment. However, the latter half of the show was captured on my digital camera, as well as the post-show disco. Enjoy.

Instructor Richard’s act involved Miss Brockway donning the psychic towels and predicting the position of the psychic plates. My camera was full of water from zip-wiring so this photo is a bit blurred!

Chloe Stimson, Guardian of the Hallowed Psychic Plates, beckons the be-towelled Miss Brockway to the stage. A mind-melting paranormal extravaganza was soon to follow. And curiously, my camera started working again at this point. Spoooooooooky.

Look at the expressions of wonder and awe in these children’s faces.

And after all that psychic excitement, what better than a boogie?

Chops, Baldrick and Gallbladder strut their funky stuff. To the Cheeky Girls, if I remember correctly.

Laura leads the way with the synchronised Atomic Kitten dance-along. Or not so synchronised, depending on your level of cynicism.

Some people are just too cool for dancing. This lot however aren’t those people. They’re just lazy.

Sam and his inventive “backwards shuffle along the stage whilst swinging his hips from side to side” dance. It wowed the ladies, let me tell you.

Fond memories of Low Mill

The amazing weather that greeted our walk on Monday was sadly not to be a feature of the rest of the week.

Instructor Gareth and Group 1. Gareth had the enviable pleasure of Group 1’s company on all their activities this week.

Instructor Richard and the Caves of Doom. Richard looked after Group 2 all week.

A bridge night with the girls. How very civilised.

Mia doing what she does best.

Group 2 before setting off on Monday’s Night Drop. Little did they know what would await them at the dreaded Nappa Scar.

Group 3 in gorge walking kit on Tuesday morning.

“We meet again, Mr Beadnall. This time, my henchwomen will not let you escape.” Fat chance when I’m belaying you from the top of the climbing tower!

Mr Beadnall in his very flattering caving suit.

Mrs Smith thought she’d escaped unscathed from the photographic record of Low Mill 6. Not so, Mrs Smith.

John’s approach to ensuring optimal amounts of sleep involved a certain amount of ribbing from the other members of Dangling Doom.

Setting up the abseil lines from Appersett Viaduct. Group 2 with Instructor Richard on Wednesday afternoon.

Robin and his Low Mill teddy play air guitar to Las Ketchup.

“Argh! My legs! Sweet mercy, my legs!” Adam falls victim to the amphibious Boggits of Ribblesdale.

So that’s it. Low Mill 6 is over and it’s time to go home.

With lunch on Friday, our time here at Low Mill is finished. It’s time to head back to Malton and look forward to some sleep and rest over half-term. We’ve all had a fantastic time here and we’ve all got lots of happy memories to take back with us.

Miss Brockway and I would like to thank the following people for helping to make Low Mill 6 a memorable occasion: Malton CP School Year 6; all the staff at Low Mill (Terry, Gareth, Liz, Sarah Richard and the cooks); Mrs Smith, Mr Culley, Mrs Pollard and Mrs Buckton for giving up some of their own time to come and help out with activities; Mr Kelly for his behind-the-scenes expertise which ensured that there was a website running for Mr Beadnall to update; Mrs Magnan and Mrs Ring for their kind gifts of flapjacks, cookies and muffins which helped to make suppertime a treat at the end of the day; all the parents and carers back at home for your amazing number of messages left on the guestbook – these really helped to settle your children in at Low Mill and we are very grateful for your time and effort in this respect and finally anyone else who has helped out with Low Mill in any way, shape or form who I’ve forgotten at this moment in time. Not forgetting Miss Brockway herself for organising the entire trip and doing a fantastic job on a day-to-day basis.

THANK YOU ALL!!

I hope that this website has been an interesting and informative look at the things your children have been getting up to this week at Low Mill. I’m sure they’ve all got a lot from this week and will have some lasting memories of their time at Malton as a result. Enjoy the holiday – we certainly will!

Please forget to keep leaving messages on our guest book now. We’re not here any more. We’ve gone. There’s no-one to check them any more. Please stop. Please. Low Mill 6 is done. Finito. Kaput. Sayonara Low Mill 6. Have you got the hint yet? Check out the pictures on the Daily Pages again. Or something. Anything other than sending more messages to the guestbook. Bye.
