Marlborough Goes to Coed-Y-Go On the 1st of May 2001 32 children from Year 5 went on an educational visit to Coed ’y’ Go Farm Holiday Centre near Oswestry, which is in Shropshire, near the Welsh border. The visit was organised by the Chair of Governors, Mr Smith. There were some helpers who were friends of Mr Smith called Leon, Helen, Rachael, Joy, Jim and Andy. The first thing we saw when we got there was a wonderful building with 2 people waving at us. They were Sheila the cook, who cooks mouth-watering food and Rachael who was so generous that we felt like staying with her. We were introduced to all the people and then we had a snack.. The first piece of work we did was a town trail in Oswestry. Then in the evening we discussed how the world was created, after we could watch Tom & Jerry or play games. The latest we went to sleep was 9 O’clock. Time went very quickly. Next morning we were fresh and ready after eating breakfast. We sat on a mini bus and rode to Trefoenon. We did some fantastic grave rubbings. After Jim organised some activities in which we had to work as a team, we got on very well together. At the end of the activities we were all proud of each other for working so well as a team. After all that we had a delicious meal made by Sheila and we had competitions. On the third and last day Helen organised a treasure hunt for us. Rachael presented the prizes to the winning team, who were the Maggots and Slugs. We were so upset when we had to go. Next year Mr Smith is organising the same trip for Year 5, if you have a chance to go don’t refuse, you’ll never have tasted anything like the meals that Sheila cooks! We had a magnificent visit.
