Year 6 have been looking at the Author Michelle Magorian who wrote Goodnight Mr. Tom. This is what we thought of the novel:

Book Review 1

The book by Michelle Magorian is an astonishing piece of fiction and I enjoyed every minute of this book. We thought the book was very interesting. When I was reading it, it made me feel sorry for the boy who had been evacuated, because when we read about him he was bruised and a pale-looking.

The setting was a small village where a grumpy old man lived, and then a few evacuees arrived from London to join the small village.

Thomas Oakley is a grumpy old man who most people are afraid of. William Beech is a boy who has been evacuated from London to the small village. William’s mum was a horrible and nasty person.

The story begins with Tom taking in William and the story follows their relationship.

The part we liked best is when the old man kidnaps the boy from the hospital.

This story would appeal to people of all ages.

Book Review 2

This story tells you about the terrible treatment dished out by a mother to her son during the 2nd world war.

I found this story very interesting and I really liked it. I also felt very sad because people had to move to different parts of the country because of the 2nd world war and even sadder when I found out about William Beach.

The story is set in a sleepy village. This quietness is turned upside down by the arrival evacuees from London.

Tom Oakley is an old man and although he doesn’t want he takes care of a little boy, the boy is called William Beach. William is a pale looking boy who has a terrible secret.

We really liked the story and feel it would appeal to adults and children alike.
