The Sixth Form offers a unique opportunity to all its members. Currently nearly 100 students are making the change from studying at GCSE level towards achieving success at A-level and GNVQ. A smooth transition to a higher level of study followed by success in higher education and employment is our goal. We aim to get students where they want to go and work with each student individually to achieve this. Guidance and support is provided through Sixth Form tutor groups. Sixth Formers from Marlborough are now studying nationwide, at Cambridge, Oxford, London, Shefield, Leicester, and Birmingham, to name but a few places. There are budding industrial chemists, engineers, linguists, accountants, and historians, who all progressed on from the Sixth Form. We are justly proud of the are we take to match students to courses, and are delighted to say that many of them return to their roots from time to time!
About two-thirds of all Sixth Formers take A-level courses, usually completing four or more A-levels in a varied range of subjects, some fimiliar and some new to a student. A further third study Business Vocational Courses. For several this leads to higher education, and for others employment. This often results from work placements during the course; we currently have students working with Marks and Spencer, Boots Plc, and Barclays Bank.
The Sixth Form provide valuable help to the school: writing and producing the school newspaper Pressing Matters, running the MIdbank, and providing a listening service for our younger students. They organise and take part in events for charity and provide extra help in various lessons, They go out to different day care centres and junior schools on a voluntary basis, They socialise in the Sixth Form common room and last June took a day out in Boulogne together.
In recent years more Sixth Formers have chosen to spend time abroad, having first secured their University Place. Students have taught in Tanzania, camped in Kenya, and trekked in the Himalayas.
