MASTRICK YOUNG PEOPLES PROJECT

An area based, informal education resource working with 15-25 year olds across the Mastrick, Summerhill and Sheddocksley areas.

PROJECT AIMS

Management - To maximise the involvement of young people in managing resources and agreeing effective responses to the needs of all potential users in the Project area.

Personal Development - To provide challenge and direction, support and encouragement to achieve personal growth in terms of: self-confidence, participation, decision making skills, taking responsibility, learning to work together, making informed choices, assertiveness, seeing tasks to the end and developing talents.

Adult Learning - To provide opportunities for 'first step adult education' matched with the necessary support for participants to overcome initial barriers to involvement and to identify and move on to other opportunities such as work, further education or community involvement.

Local Change - To provide space, time and resources for young people collectively to pursue issues of concern both by developing new community provision and by influencing provision by other agencies.

Information and Advice - To provide information, advice and support to individuals so that they can solve individual problems.

Youth - To develop effective working relationships with those young people most in need to support because of their poor self-image, involvement in anti-social activity and negative relationship with other agencies.

To use intensive one-to-one and groupwork methods to bring about change in these young people's lives by providing motivation and challenge which enables them to reconsider their own view of their potential and to make and act on informed choices about their futures.
