Learning opportunities

What you want - we organise courses and groups that are asked for by local young people, at a time and place to suit you.
If you're aged 15-25 and stay in Mastrick, Summerhill or Sheddocksley. Please contact ( Kate tel. 346308) to let  us know what you're looking for.

We aim to provide opportunities for 'first step adult education' matched with the necessary support for participants to overcome initial barriers to involvement and to identify and move on to other opportunities such as work, further education or community involvement.
Our informal classes and groups are friendly, fun and relaxed.  All free with Creche available.  Choose from a variety of ' first step ' classes such as Music, Arts and Crafts, Assertiveness, Outdoor Activities, Healthy Living. We can offer guidance sessions to help you consider your options for the future The Project works closely with local community education staff to co-ordinate local adult education provision.  In this context, the Project has a distinct role in persuading young people to return to learning by offering suitable opportunities and support.
Particular concerns for the Project at present include youth literacy and ensuring young people are able to benefit from the learning opportunities offered by the use of  IT  New users are always welcome, drop in for a coffee to find out more or contact us at the Project.

Learning
for real

Building knowledge, confidence and skills in the community with local people

...is about opportunities and provision for young people in Mastrick, Summerhill and Sheddocksley.
A number of  organisations are working together to support local people in the area to develop a range of learning opportunities that best meet real, everyday and future concerns.
This is being done through surveys and talking with and listening to local people and groups. Once as many ideas and views as possible have been gathered, a Community Learning Plan will be produced.
Local people and groups will have chances in May to make comment, suggest changes and agree what it says.
Make sure your views are included - look out for opportunities to have your say.
Community Learning is about…..

  • enhancing opportunities for personal development (eg through adult education or youth work)
  • enhancing the quality of life in communities by working together for positive change
  • agencies and local people working together to develop a shared agenda and vision.
