S.A.F.E.R (Sefton Action For Estate Residents) wants local people to play their part in supporting the L30 Centre by attending the various activities that will take place at the facility over the next few months.
Two open days were held on May 7 and 8 to show residents what was on offer and to find out from them what they would like to see happening in the new centre which is situated at the Grange school in Stoneyfield.
The first Netherton Out-Of-School Club, funded through MTEC and the Netherton Partnership, is also based at the L30 Centre. The club provides care and play for primary-age children in a safe and stimulating environment with priority given to parents who are working or in training.
The Netherton Partnership Further Education Project has invested £18,000 in a new Adult Learning Room at the centre where a full range of courses for adults will be on offer.
Available to all Netherton residents, the courses will be run by Hugh Baird College and South Sefton Adult Education Centre and will fit in with school times so that parents can attend. Money for childcare provision might also be available for parents where necessary.
S.A.F.E.R itself has set up a permanent office at the L30 Centre and the building will be also be used by other local groups such as the Friends and Relations of Grange School (F.R.O.G.S), which is involved in raising funds to help with various events at the school.
F.R.O.G.S plans to hold its meetings at the centre as well as set-up an after-school homework club for pupils of the Grange. It also wants more parents and friends of the school to get involved in its work. F.R.O.G.S can be contacted through the school on (0151) 924 7917.
