A familiar figure in the area, Dean began studying 15 months ago at Hugh Baird
College and has never looked back. He is currently studying Photography,
Business Studies, Computer Studies and Visual Studies.
His biggest interest is photography and when he completes his National Diploma in the subject next year, Dean hopes to achieve the highest marks in the country. He plans to emulate another former Hugh Baird student David Knowles by going to university in Blackpool to do one of the top photography degree courses in England.
Dean is also active in various community initiatives. He is the Vice-Chair of S.A.F.E. (Sefton Action for Employment) and has played a major role in the consultation process for the Feelgood Factory, Netherton’s proposed healthy living centre.
He works voluntarily for Aintree Hospitals’ League of Friends group as their official photographer and Hugh Baird College recently hosted an exhibition of Dean’s photographic work based on the subject of cruelty to animals. The Netherton Partnership awarded him £150 to help purchase some camera equipment.
Dean’s achievements earned him the title of Merseyside’s Adult Learner of the Year and he has come a long way since he undertook his initial Introduction to Computers course 15 months ago.
