B-Ball for all

Bootle High School has become one of the first
schools in the area to receive new outdoor basketball goals. The goals arrived
as part of a scheme developed by the English Basketball Association to try and
increase the popularity of the game both in school and in the community.
The facility was opened by the coach from the Chester Jets, one of the country’s
top teams and as part of the opening ceremony, pupils from Bootle High School,
St. Ambrose Barlow and St. George of England took part in a three versus three
competition and a two-ball shoot out.
Clinics, sponsored by Adidas, will soon be held at the facility and there will also
be a visit from the coaching staff of the Manchester Giants, which is great news
for both Bootle High School pupils and basketball players and fans in Netherton.

MO-ment of glory
by Gillian Millington and Liz Shields
Year nine pupils from Bootle High School took part in a interform basketball
competition recently. It was thoroughly enjoyed by all participants and everyone
put a lot of effort into the competition and showed a lot of team work. There
were five teams altogether and they were mixed, boys and girls, to make the
game fair.
After all the teams had played each other, the final was between 9MO and
9AW. The final game was very exciting and lots of pupils came to watch to
cheer both teams on. Both teams played superbly but at half time it was bad
news for 9AW as they were getting beat by eight points to six. In the second
half, everyone continued to give their best but 9MO ran out the winners by
a score of 23 points to eight.
