A temporary visitor
by Kevin Mellon

An unusual visitor became a temporary resident at Bootle High
School during the Easter break.

Pupils returning to school after the holiday were surprised
to find a songthrush nesting on the window sill of the science
department. Teachers Mr Day and Mr Holmes immediately set up
a video camera to record the birds antics.
The nest contained five eggs, but only four of them eventually
hatched. The four chicks remained in the nest for nearly two weeks.
When asked about the effect the nesting birds had on the pupils
at the school, Mr Day answered: "Pupils from all years have shown
a great deal of interest and it has become a common talking point
during science classes."
