Netherton NOW! - Taking Pride in Netherton

Taking Pride in Netherton

The Netherton Partnership is to host a major event to recognise those people who have committed themselves to improving the quality of life in the area.

And to ensure no-one is overlooked, every resident and every business is invited to nominate those individuals who they feel fit the bill and should receive a civic award. There are four categories in which residents and businesses can be nominated: Community Development - where an individual has done service for the community, has helped improve the quality of life for the community or enabled the community to take the initiative itself.

Public service - where an individual, such as a health worker, lollipop person, home help etc., has made a real difference in caring for, and therefore improving the quality of life of, Netherton people.

Education - where an individual has been committed to providing a quality education for the young people of Netherton, whether as a teacher or the provider of facilities.

Business Development - where a business has shown a real commitment to Netherton in providing job training, facilities for the community or environmental improvements.

To nominate a person or business in one or all of the categories, residents were invited to complete a form in Netherton Now or collect additional copies from the Netherton Network office, 32 Marian Square.

The aim of this Civic Awards Ceremony is to not only honour the efforts of the nominees but also to promote pride in Netherton.

Dave Brennan

Netherton Partnership Director Dave Brennan, above, said: "For too long Netherton has been overlooked. It has a tremendous amount to offer those who live and work here and it should be seen to be celebrating its assets - its people and businesses.

"For this Civic Awards Ceremony to really reflect the depth of feeling and determination in this community, it is vital every person takes part by nominating someone they believe to have given something to Netherton - whether it be their time, skills, or in the case of local businesses, jobs.

"This is an exciting time for Netherton and the Netherton Partnership and by working closely with the community and our partner organisations, we can look forward to a successful future. The Civic Awards is a key feature of that process."

The Ceremony will be held at the Park Hotel on Friday, September 26. For further details about the gala evening or the work of the Netherton Partnership, please contact Gillian Hart on (0151) 330 5805.

Chair of the Community Forum, Berni Knox, added: "This event is not just about bureaucrats slapping each other on the back. It's about those people in Netherton who make a difference to other people's lives. The neighbourhood who checks on old people living alone or the lollipop lady out in all weathers to make sure that our kids are safe or the parent who lends a hand with reading lessons in school.

"These people are all important and this is your chance to say thank you for making a difference."

This event is being co-hosted by the Park Hotel, Netherton.
