The idea behind the conference was to gather the different groups from all the European Countries that had received funding from Pathways to ask them for their opinions on what they were able to use the funds for.
They were also asked for their opinion on whether they thought it was of benefit to the area and whether they thought the funding should continue to be available in the future.
At the conference, there were people of many origins and backgrounds with the same objective in mind - to give their view on how Pathways had helped in their region of the E.U. (European Union).
Sharon McCarthy spoke about how unemployment had decreased in this area since Pathways came about and how it was not essential to have a degree to get a job. The reason for this, Sharon stated, is that Pathways was paying for or helping the residents of the Pathways area to get training, tuition and expenses.
The conference was held over two days on Thursday 16th and Friday 17th October. Sharon McCarthy attended the conference on both days but only got the chance to speak on Friday.
The conference was held in a old hospital building which has been made into a conference centre, shops, restaurant and art galleries. It is now called ‘Oud Sint Jan’.
