Now, to help further the regeneration, Netherton has been awarded another £4 million under the European Community's URBAN initiative.
Dave Brennan, manager of the Netherton Partnership, said: "This is tremendous news for the area. This additional commitment from Europe will enable more innovative and exciting projects to take place."
Planning underway....
The Partnership has developed some initial plans as to how the money will be used.
One of the main ideas put forward is the building of a resource centre solely for the people of Netherton. The resource centre could provide numerous services for the public, including child care, adult learning, a new fully-equipped computer suite and a function room.
The centre would not use all of the money though and the Netherton Partnership is still looking for ideas from the public about what they would like to see happen. Some ideas already put forward are a new law centre where people would get free legal advice, a women's group and a youth centre, where young people would have access to computers and the Internet. Also suggested was a video media project for school pupils.
All of these ideas are being considered but the Partnership is still looking for more projects that would benefit the community. Get in touch with the Netherton Partnership and give them your views!
