MEREWAY MIDDLE SCHOOL
HEALTH POLICY STATEMENT
This policy reflects the mission statement
of Mereway Middle School.
The aim of the policy is to ensure all
children in our care are aware of the importance of health and
fitness for their present and future well being.
We aim to:
- Promote physical fitness
- Promote healthy eating
- Raise awareness of issues relating
to mental health
- Provide personal hygiene education
We will:
- Seek relevant personal medical details
ascertaining to any condition that may affect a child's school
life
- Have a procedure for dealing with
children who are injured or fall ill at school
- Make parents aware of the necessity
to inform the school of the families contact with any notifiable
disease
- Ensure staff remain vigilant and
inform parents and the LEA of any possible health risks
- Ensure staff inform parents of any
concerns regarding a child's health
- Be aware of the special needs of
brain injured children
- Expect all children to take part
in games and PE lessons
- Educate children in the importance
of healthy eating
- Provide facilities for the children's
personal hygiene
- Provide support for children and
staff dealing with stress related problems i.e. family conflict,
break ups or bereavement
- Make children aware of the availability
of the school nurse
- Provide at least the required number
of staff trained in First Aid
- Encourage all children to take part
in a First Aid Course.
This policy was written with reference
to the Drugs Policy and Sex Education Policy.
This policy is applicable to staff,
parents and governors of Mereway Middle School. It was written
by a working party consisting of Governors, teachers and support
Staff.
