This policy reflects the mission statement
of the school which states:-
"We will ensure everyone has
access to our excellent resources and will make use of new developments
and technology, to equip us all for success in tomorrow's society."
"We will involve all individuals
in decision-making processes to enable them to become independent
learners."
"We will create a purposeful
learning environment in which work of the highest standard is
produced and all individuals of all abilities are given every
encouragement and opportunity to realise their potential."
The Library and Resource Centre is an
essential feature of the school's emphasis on 'excellence and
enjoyment in learning'. It is our view that reading is an important
part of a child's education. Without this ability, the learning
process in almost every sphere is considerably restricted, therefore
we place great importance on the role of the library in the school.
We encourage a love of books in our children so that they become
readers for life. Learning to use the Library is an important
skill that will help children in their later education when they
need to use public libraries.
This policy is applicable to all teaching
staff and students of Mereway Middle School and was produced on
behalf of the SMT by Lynne Varley.
