This policy reflects the school's Mission
Statement......
"We will involve all individuals
in decision-making processes to enable them to become independent
learners."
Children, as they develop, naturally
explore the world around them. They do this in practical ways
by exploring and interacting with their physical environment.
They explore ideas, observe their effects, develop new ideas and
try them out.
At Mereway Middle School we aim to further
develop an enquiring mind and scientific approach to problems,
that will aid the development of the decision-making processes.
As a core subject in the curriculum,
science encompasses essential concepts, knowledge and skills which
help other learning to take place effectively. These are all within
the outlines of the National Curriculum's Programme of Study for
Science:-
Experimental and Investigative Science
Life Processes and Living Things
Materials and their Properties
Physical Processes
To ensure a balance in the acquisition
of skills, knowledge and understanding to achieve our aim students
cover a wide range of activities that will:-
promote the raising and answering of questions
encourage an understanding of safety and care
build upon and extend existing practical skills
encourage the formulation of testable hypothesis
involve variables to be controlled in the development of a fair test
develop skills of using equipment and measurement, that will encourage students to make decisions about when, what and how to obtain results
integrate the use of technology to communicate
ideas, results and conclusions
The policy is applicable to all at Mereway
Middle School and produced by Josiane Kaal on behalf of the SMT.
