MEREWAY MIDDLE SCHOOL
STAFF DEVELOPMENT POLICY
STATEMENT
- The main aim of staff development at Mereway Middle School
is to enable staff to become independent learners and provide
opportunities to realise their potential.
- This reflects the mission of the school in which all individuals
are encouraged to reach their maximum potential.
- Mereway Middle School aims to have a well structured plan
for Staff Development utilising the whole range of support skills.
This includes strategies which recognise the importance of:
- the induction of new staff
- development of expertise
- team development
- learning and teaching styles
- the dissemination of new skills and knowledge
- an appraisal system that operates for all staff and encourages
professional development.
This policy is applicable to all employees of the school, both
teaching and non-teaching staff.
At Mereway Middle School we recognise the need to review and evaluate
current responsibilities through appropriate consultation with
staff at individual and group levels. In addition to the generic
job description for a class teacher curriculum manager and strategy
group member. There is a system of negotiation, and regularly
reviewing role descriptions which reflect curriculum and management
responsibilities.
- This policy is on behalf of Personnel. Those directly involved
in it's creation were Ros Burman and Ruth Sulley. Thanks are also
extended to the Staff Development Group, Quality Assurance group
and John West-Burnham for their participation in the Training
Day in the Spring of 1995.
Please refer to Staff Development Policy Details for more information.
Policy review - the Personnel Committeee will review the policy
annually to ensure that the information it contains reflects current
thinking.
