STAFF DEVELOPMENT 1995/96

In the coming year use will be made of outside agencies to provide Staff Development and Training opportunities. This will be through consultancy and school based training. Additional development opportunities are offered via Teaching Partnerships and Team Training, with Curriculum Co-ordinators acting as facilitators.

The number of off site courses applied for has been specifically focused, and are given on the attached sheet.

All requests for training, via Team Co-ordinators and Curriculum Co-ordinators have been met as far as possible, as have those highlighted by the Curriculum Audit and implicated in the School Development Plan Initiatives. The more individual training requests will be met by partnerships within the school, but, on the whole, school based training has been specifically geared to meet our objectives. Once we have accepted the tenders put in by the facilitators, a full programme of training will be published. This will have implications for the whole staff conference, staff INSETS, Curriculum Co-ordinators meetings, and additional working groups. Training for associate staff is fully integrated into the programme.

Staff attending off site courses have to ensure that:

  1. their learning is fed back into the school
  2. that change is caused as a result of this
  3. short term and long term goals should be established and these included in a full evaluation.

Last year NIAS ran additional courses during the year that were not published in the prospectus. These can only be attended if the

1. the above criteria are met

2. they do not impact on staff meetings

3. we are still within the budget set for such courses ( check with Ros )

At this point I am in a position to list the NIAS courses that have been applied for.
