PARTNERSHIP TEACHING

and

CURRICULUM AUDITS

This paper describes the establishment of a closer link between regular timetabled curriculum audits and partnership teaching.

AIMS

1 To provide a plan of audit cycles to ensure coverage of all aspects of the curriculum.

2 To ensure Curriculum Co-ordinators are regularly monitoring the learning and teaching throughout school in their curriculum areas.

3 To improve the effectiveness of Partnership Teaching by focusing the needs of staff around learning and teaching objectives, rather than the acquisition of skills.

4 To enable Curriculum Co-ordinators to improve children's learning by working alongside targeted members of staff through teaching partnerships.

5 To encourage Curriculum Co-ordinators to take further responsibility for work throughout the school and measure their effectiveness though children's learning.

Audit Cycles Explained

Cycle 1 General Overview of curriculum in school. An outcome will be points of action and the identification of areas of weakness relating to teaching and learning.

Cycle 2 Specific audit of a chosen aspect of the curriculum area with a focus on the children's learning (ways and aspects) and teaching styles.

Clare T or Gaynor to lead discussion with each Curriculum Co- ordinator to negotiate and agree a specific teaching and learning focus for the second audit.

An outcome will be the naming of specific staff who want or require further development in the teaching partnerships which will follow.

Cycle 3 Specific learning and teaching targets (from Cycle 2) will be revisited and the co-ordinator will assess their effectiveness by focusing on the children's learning.

Audits and teaching partnerships will be evaluated through this approach and new specific learning and teaching targets will be identified and the co-ordinator will move back to Cycle 2, or Cycle 1 if more general information is needed.

Written guidance will be given to Co-ordinators advising on the possible content of each audit and processes which have proved useful.
