All children will follow the National Curriculum carefully differentiated to their age and ability. Each child will have specific 'targets' for their general class work and yet more detailed 'targets' to help address areas of particular need. These programmes, especially the latter, will be developed in consultation with all relevant professionals. Both groups of 'targets' will be reviewed at least half-termly.

8. Specific Resources

An Enhanced Learning Resource Centre known as the Challenge Centre, has been developed to serve a variety of purposes including enabling the students to receive specific and focused teaching, either individually or in small groups, to assist their development in areas of special need. This will be developed jointly by the school and the LEA

The enhanced provision will build up a variety of resources in all areas of the curriculum which will be available to all staff and students. Information Technology resources and a structured reading programme will be essential to this development.

The advice, guidance and where possible specific practical support of external professional support will be sought wherever appropriate :

Education Welfare Officer Speech Therapist

STEPS Team Physiotherapist

School Nurse Medical Officer

10. School Organisation

The students who require elements of Enhanced Provision are to be fully integrated into the mainstream classes. The support given will be directly dependent on the particular needs of each individual student. This support may be provided by the Co-ordinator of the Enhanced Provision, their class teacher, another teacher or by non-teaching staff employed for that purpose. This support may take place in the class, the 'Learning Resource Centre' or indeed elsewhere in school. The support may be individualised or take place in small groups.

11. Home - School Liaison

It is hoped that contact between home and school will be very regular, especially where parents bring their children to school. Parents will be invited into school on a termly basis to review their child progress. This meeting will involve parents, class, teacher, SNC and, where appropriate students. In addition to this a drop in session will be held by the SNC every Friday from when parents are invited in informally to discuss their child's progress.

12 Assessment, Review and Monitoring

Each student will have a programme which runs alongside their classroom activities which will be reviewed at least termly. A full progress review will take place every six or twelve months in line with statutory responsibilities under the 1993 Act. Provision will be monitored by the Special Needs Co-ordinator.
