MODERN LANGUAGES HOMEWORK POLICY

  1. All classes in years 7 and 8 are given homework for 30/40 minutes per week
  2. The amount and nature of the work varies according to the age of the group
  3. The time required to complete a homework is no more than that recommended by the whole school policy
  4. A variety of tasks and activities are set, although learning is the significant proportion in the early stages. Other activities include: worksheets, charts/graphs to show the results of classwork, illustrating/decorating work, practising/devising a conversation, writing about self/family, creative writing
  5. As learning by heart is such an important aspect of homework, its importance in successful language learning is discussed with students and appropriate techniques are suggested - e.g. Look, Say, Cover, Write, Check
  6. Homework is a valued aspect of the subject area, it is expected in on time and marked promptly. Students who do not complete homework on time are expected to complete work at break or lunchtime.
  7. Students are encouraged to note homework in their Homework Logs or in the back of their exercise book
