e) NUMBERS

The number of children we can accommodate on one visit is
a maximum of 35.

The school should ensure that the correct number of adults accompany the children on the visit.

Adult/Children Ratio

Nursery and Under 5 year olds

Over 5 year olds

Special schools

l adult = 4 children

1 adult = 15 children

Ratio dependant on the school

f) NATIONAL
CURRICULUM

Most of the curriculum subjects can be incorporated into the farm visit at Levels 1 - 4.

Schools will have planned in advance using long, medium and short term planning how the farm visit fits into the National Curriculum using the programmes of study in selected subject areas at the appropriate level.

The farm visit can be used as a stimulus or as a reinforcement to enable the class teacher to effectively cover the appropriate areas of the National Curriculum.

g) SAMPLES

There are samples of foodstuffs used to feed the animals available for classes to take back to school if they wish.

If schools want these samples they will need to bring with them 5 small polythene bags or containers for the following foodstuffs:-

  • mixed corn
  • mash
  • pig nuts
  • cow nuts
  • barley
and 2 large polythene bags for:-
  • hay
  • straw
We do not allow children to collect samples of leaves, flowers etc.

The principle is:-

LEAVE NOTHING BUT FOOTPRINTS.
TAKE NOTHING BUT MEMORIES OR PHOTOGRAPHS.
