Literacy Ideas Below are some files that you can download. Their formats are Microsoft's WORD and POWERPOINT. Barrowquest: extended narrative writing unit This unit of work can be found in the DfES Planning Exemplification booklet 3 (ref:DfES 0135/2002), available from the Standards website: http://www.standards.dfes.gov.uk/literacy. The booklet is one of a set of three designed to assist Y6 teachers with planning. The extended narrative writing unit Barrowquest is a three week unit of work suitable for use in Y6 term 3. It involves reading a model 'quest adventure' in five chapters and using this as a basis for developing an extended story through shared and independent writing. Chapters written by the children, individually or in pairs, can be incorporated into collaborative group versions of an adventure story. Full planning is provided in the exemplification booklet. The unit can be worked using paper-based resources only, but the use of ICT (during independent writing and/or shared reading and writing) will add a most valuable dimension to this unit. Electronic files to complement work on the Barrowquest unit are (also) available to download from the Standards website. There are links between this literacy unit of work and the QCA ICT unit of work 6A Multimedia presentation where children organise, refine and present a set of linked multimedia pages. Lisa Bird. Adventure (and Adventure 2): Is the same formats as above, but an 'open' titled version with references to Barrowquest removed. You will need to spend a little time following how the files work, but anyone with a basic knowledge of WORD or POWERPOINT will follow the format easily. Powerpoint: There are two versions of Barrowquest and Adventure, one single page for up to 250 words per chapter with the 2 page version better for up to 500 word chapters. |
