Standing Stones

 

Why are the standing stones here?

Why do they stand so tall?

They look so stately standing in the sun

Just like a sculptured yellow wall.

 

Why do they never fall?

Do they ever cry for home?

Or are they happy where they are?

Would they wish they weren’t alone?

 

Where do they come from?

Are they under a curse?

Could they once have been witches?

Or something even worse?

 

Do they feel like me?

Were they ever ‘nice’?

Can they understand what you and I say?

Did they pay a price?

 

When were they flying the earth?

Were they having the time of their life?

What did they do so wrong?

That caused them such strife.

 

Is this a new beginning?

Will they settle here?

Will they stay for evermore?

Do they ever shed a tear?
