Letchworth Educational Network

Over 100 Internet Lessons Taught Last Term

Over 100 lessons, which actively used internet as an information source, were taught in Letchworth Schools during the autumn term. These lessons ranged from creative writing and IT skills for year 7 pupils to A-level work in Art, Biology, Economics, Business Studies, French and German.

Funding for this exciting project has come from the Letchworth Garden City Heritage Foundation and our partners in the project are Research Machines and CableTel.

New Pioneer Group Formed

Seven more secondary school teachers have agreed to surf the net at home in their own time in order to explore how internet might be used as a resource in their lessons. These teachers have taken over computers loaned to colleagues who were in the original pioneer group.

All curriculum areas have now been covered.

Teachers Train Colleagues to "Surf the Net"

Four of the original pioneer group are now training Primary and Secondary colleagues to "surf the net".

Training sessions are taking pleac in the three state secondary schools using their computer networks which are now connected to internet.

Teachers Now use E-Mail

So far 56 secondary and 16 primary teachers have taken up a generous Research Machines offer of free e-mail addresses. The offer will be extended to Year 12 students.

Research Librarian Appointed

Mrs Angela Dent, a part time librarian at St Christopher School, has been appointed to investigate how a digital library service might be provided to all schools.
