Work Shadowing

What is Work Shadowing?

Over 300 pupils from local primary schools and secondary schools spend a day at work, shadowing one of their parents, relatives or parents friends each year. The idea of Work Shadowing comes from Scandinavia where children as young as seven spend a day with a parent at their place of work.

Schools who take part are:

  • Fearnhill School (Year 9)
  • The Highfield School (Year 7)
  • Lordship Farm JMI (Year 6)
  • Norton School (Year 9)
  • Stonehill JMI (Year 6)
  • Woolgrove School (Year 6)
  • St Nicholas CE JMI School (Year 6)

What does it do?

  • widens pupils horizons
  • gives pupils a taste of the world of work
  • makes pupil and parent look at each other with "new eyes"

What did they say?

"Now I know why Mum flops into a chair when she gets home"

"Quite the most exciting thing the school has ever done"

"I was amazed at how grown up and responsible he has become"
