1996 Marks The Diamond Jubilee for St. Birinus School

The Headmaster, Chris Bryan

St Birinus School is a single sex boys' school with a mixed Sixth Form (shared with Didcot Girls' School). It has some splendid facilities and caters for pupils aged between 11-19.

Our School was inspected in 1994 by OFSTED, this report can be downloaded by clicking on the link below.

  • Our catchment area includes the expanding town of Didcot and the delightful surrounding villages of Appleford, Aston Tirrold, Aston Upthorpe, Blewbury, Chilton, East Hagbourne, Harwell, Long Wittenham, North Moreton, South Moreton, Rowstock, Upton and West Hagbourne.

An increasing number of pupils live in towns and villages outside our catchment area, but whose parents choose to send them to St Birinus.

Girls in the area attend Didcot Girls' School. St Birinus and Didcot Girls' School co-operate very closely, and together we organise a combined Sixth Form.

In addition to our Open Evening, we also encourage prospective parents to visit the school during a normal school day. You are invited to telephone the school to make an appointment which is mutually convenient.

    Our Aims

    Spiritual Moral and Personal Development

At St Birinus School our aim is to promote the spiritual, moral, cultural, intellectual and physical development of all pupils and to prepare them for the opportunities, responsibilities, and experiences of adult life.

To enable us to carry out this important aspect of our work, we also rely on the support of parents and others with a significant influence on young people. The school has well established links with parents, church leaders, health workers, the police, social services, youth leaders, the local business community and various charities.

The values of the school are reflected in our programmes for assemblies, tutorials, and extra curricular activities; our policies on religious education, sex education, special educational needs and equal opportunities; and through the formal and informal curriculum.

By fostering a greater understanding of the beliefs and values of the society in which we live, we hope that young people at St Birinus will develop feelings of tolerance and compassion towards others.

    We aim to:

  • Enable all new boys to St Birinus to settle down and help them to use the various facilities within the school.

  • Encourage all boys to work hard and achieve their maximum potential in all that they do.

  • Help boys to acquire a wide range of skills which will enable them to meet the challenges of a changing society.

  • Prepare boys for life beyond school - into further education, higher education, employment and adult life.

  • Recognise the achievements of all boys so that they feel valued members of society.

  • Offer the facilities of the school to the local community.
