General National Vocational Qualifications (GNVQs) are aimed primarily at the 16-19 age group. Nationally, GNVQs are the principal provision for vocational education and training. GNVQs provide an excellent opportunity to combine vocational and academic qualifications for the increasing number of 16 year olds staying on in full time education.
General National Vocational Qualifications will provide a broad based vocational education. The combination of vocational attainment plus Core Skills (Information Technology, Communication and Application of Number) will provide a foundation from which students can progress, either to Further or Higher Education or to employment and further training.
All GNVQ courses are vocational. Students will go on work placement for one day each week, and will need to provide their own transport.

Advanced Level General National Vocational Qualifications (GNVQs) are new, and are aimed at the 16-19 age group. A pass in this "Vocational A Level" is equivalent to two GCE A level passes.
All GNVQ courses are vocational. Students at Advanced Level will go on a two week work placement, for which they will need to provide their own transport.
Many Universities are interested in recruiting Advanced Level GNVQ students, particularly onto the more vocational degree courses.
